Findory Making Serious Gains

Greg Linden announces that good ole’ Findory is making some great gains in traffic, proving the untapped demand for personalized news. This chart shows excelent upward growth in Findory’s first five quarters, going from launch (zero) to two million hits per month. Congratulations, Greg! While everyone was going nuts for Google News’ customizations recently, I know I’m still going to be using Findory, because I get so much more out of it. I just hope we keep getting cool new features.

In the interest of full disclosure, I should let you guys know I recently got a t-shirt from Findory. It probably amounts to a small conflict of interest, but I like the shirt, and I’ve been shilling for Findory for months without any promise of any t-shirt. I just like the site. If anyone thinks I can be bought with a shirt, they really don’t think too much of me. Besides, I like the shirt, so I’m keeping it!

Of course, looking at Findory’s Cafe Press site, I’m kind of pining for the baseball jersey (*cough*cough*)…

Google Integrates Keyhole Into Maps

Google has now integrated Keyhole into Google Maps and Google Local. Simply clicking on the “Satellite” link turns the display into actual satelite imagery of whatever you are looking at. You’ll also have to deal with barely-there copyright notices watermarked on top of everything you look at, but I think it is more than worth it as a tradeoff. Keyhole in Google Maps runs absurdly fast, showing no discernable performance loss from standard Google Maps.

Submitted for your approval:

Keyhole in Google Maps

Counterclockwise from top: The City of New York, Shea Stadium (with the Arthur Ashe Tennis Center), and home.

Yup, its pretty easy to find anything you are looking for.

You have to love this addition. While still not as useful for local search as A9’s street-level view, it covers far more space, and is certainly a great resource as a mapping tool, and even for driving directions. I’ll bet Google is hoping this acts as a great way to drum up interest (and subscriptions) for Keyhole.

New Google Blog: Fu**edGoogle

There’s a new blog about Google, and this one calls itself Fu**edGoogle, because it hates Google so much. Its pretty standard stuff, with super-pessimistic comments on the ongoing court cases, the WordPress scandal, and eye-rolling at Google’s corporate culture. The content is pretty yawn-worthy, although I do love the artwork. Of course, the blog author doesn’t leave his name, already a big no-no in the blogosphere, but even more so when you are being this negative. How do I know this blog isn’t being written by a Microsoft employee, or a Yahoo employee, or Mark Jen (just kidding), or Google Watch’s Daniel Brandt? Disclosure, peoples.

F-ing Spam Blogs

F-ing Blogger really needs to find a way to get rid of these f-ing spam blogs. Case in point, http://christopherto1962.blogspot.com/ (nofollow, of course):

Although regional affiliates were able to drive over the years… I’ll grow old and wrinkly and my TE made the same crystal meth as Hitler? The stuff that just blew in. The internet casino offers select members complimentary suites with saunas, karaoke rooms, plunge pools and massage areas. Construction is still thin and ravaged by substance and that his past has not worked for Vinnell Corp. , a sketch artist before the leadership vote. Thusly, all three of the Yale Prevention Research Center at the upcoming big game, but sure can t help but ask my self every time: who are here with us?

I gotta ask: Is there any effort being made at all to delete these spam blogs?
