Full List Of Gmail Emoticons
Gmail Help has the list of animated Gmail Chat emoticons, the turning and winking smilies you see when chatting in Gmail, but not in Google Talk, the supposedly full-featured client.
If you miss the animation, uh, reload the page or something. Yeah, these break the normal rightclick > Reload Image behavior in Opera, and I’m not sure other browsers even have that feature. Actually, the one thing that does work in Opera is to scroll down, so they’re off page, and then scroll back up. I have no idea why that is, but its probably also what breaks reloading.

The emoticons suck.
Comment by Daldianus | February 22, 2006
Why do they suck? Because they don’t look like the “stylish” emoticons of other IM services like Yahoo’s? Personally, I believe text smilies are better than emoticons because they don’t distract you as much…at least Gmail’s simple emoticons blend with the text so you won’t get irritated with a bunch of bright yellow heads.
Comment by Francis Ocoma | February 22, 2006
Exactly, TY Francis
Comment by Dave the monkey | March 6, 2006
Francis is right! They are smooth and understated…and they still retain a typographic aesthetic. Google knows what the eff is up.
Comment by Matty | March 12, 2006
If you love text so much, then why convert it to an image at all? Idiots.
Comment by dh- | April 5, 2006

I like the google emotions too
Comment by steph | April 10, 2006
These emoticons kick much ass
Comment by Ely | April 27, 2006
They are completely pitiful in a competetive market. most people I know won’t switch over this one simple feature even though I have tried to explain how great everything else is!
Comment by mysticrhythms | May 8, 2006
i love gmail chat its flippin sweet
Comment by fosho :) | May 16, 2006
I think the texticons are great. You can’t help but go “aww” at the sad smiley. (Sad smiley?) Google Chat is very nice, and google talk is the best voice chat I’ve used, but I highly doubt it will catch on. If it does, it won’t be for a long time. Most people don’t even use gmail.
Comment by scarcock | May 23, 2006
Emoticons express whay you feel.
Much like a picture expresses a thousand words.I am huge fan of Gmail but I am tempted to turn to Yahoo.com for a limited number of people who correspond with me daily.
Please make your emoticons more expressive and should be an option near the ‘Bold, Italic, Underline’ option.
Once again, a picture/emoticon expresses a thousand words.
Warm regards,

Comment by Leesee | August 26, 2006
I found a new gmail emoticon that isn’t listed on Google’s list.
Try this one…

Oops if this doesn’t work, do like that other guy’s suggestion in parentheses.

Comment by Jim Sweeney | September 30, 2006
chinoy: emoticons don’t express a thousand words. that’s *pictures* that express a thousand words.
emoticons express only what the name suggests - emotions. this can be accomplished similarly through a simple ascii-like graphic (e.g., gmail’s emoticons) or a more ornate graphic (e.g., AIM’s emoticons). the communicative content is the same in either case.
=) means =), whether it’s big or small or animated or not, the same as “hi” means “hi” no matter what font face you use to write it.
Comment by damon | November 16, 2006
damon,
Reread what Chinoy actually posted. He was saying that Emoticons express how you feel, much LIKE pictures express a thousand words. Please don’t critcize people through intentional misquoting.
There are a large number of people out there that refuse to use gmail chat due to the fact that texticons are not as expressive or aesthetically pleasing as the more competitive and expressive Emoticons.
Personally, I think it would be beneficial to my enjoyment of the gmail chat as well as to that of the myriad users out there who simply prefer something nicer on the eyes.

I couldn’t figure that one out either, but my girlfriend did: it’s MORE COWBELL!! cool, huh?

By the way, I’ve never liked any chat other than gmail’s - maybe it is geared more towards my age group (30+), which makes sense, because all the lil kids playing with AIM don’t have the cash we do.

KP-
maybe, but I’m 15, and I despise big or colorful emoticons. I think it’s just what your tastes are. on other chat services, I go out of my way to make it so my smilie doesn’t get big and yellow -.-
Comment by Andi | January 4, 2007
Love the emoticons and the google ones are lots of fun. That cowbell one is wonderful, thanks for showing me that one!

i think gmail emoticons are cool but i mainly use MSN and get on gmail to talk to ppl who dont have MSN. i sorta like the gmail emoticons but they are boring and plain and there arent that many of them. in MSN there are thousands of attractive and unique emoticons.
i just think if the google team made them flashier they could go far with google talk…

I like gmail chat, because it is difficul to be caught on chatting when you are “not supposed to be doing that”, since there are no colorful effects poping up every 2 seconds!!!
So thanks and have a good one (whatever the one can be for you!)

i think the gmail emoticons suck. i just switched from yahoo and love everthing else but really feel like something is missing. yahoo’s make me laugh- which is very important for me. my opinion - gmail should use the colorful ones, too (i really miss the devil, mostly, and the raised eyebrow) and don’t use them if you don’t like them.

I think gmail chat rules…i can chat wherever i am without installing anything, and it’s allowed everywhere. Web messenger is sometimes banned, and it’s a drag anyway.
I can be working an chatting, no one even thinks i’m chatting. It’s great.

I love the emoticons! THey’re not big and flashy like the ones on messenger. But I do wish there were more. By the way, congratulations to everyone who found others that weren’t on the site!
