Nine-Way Video Sharing Smackdown
If you liked the last showdown of Google Video, YouTube and Revver, then you’ll love Chris Pirillo’s latest: This time, he’s taking it to the nines. Nine video networks (MSN Soapbox, YouTube, Breaky, Vimeo, Jumpcut, Blip, Metacafe, Revver and iFilm) all playing the same video of Chris singing Jingle Bells with his dogs. Ok, it isn’t as good as the original, because the videos aren’t yelling at each other (and in this form, we could have had a scene straight out of the Brady Bunch opener), but it is fun nevertheless.
I wonder why Google Video got left out?

Hey Nathan,
Sorry if you already know this, but in Firefox 2, your site is really weird looking after this post… it looks like you were trying to embed several of Chris Pirillo’s videos or something… seems to fix itself around the post ‘youtube on verizon - services for suckers’…

Interesting. Only ONE of all nine allowed me to play the video.
It was YouTube, the one I hate. All the other ones either gave me a big warning, didn’t play at all, or only let me listen to the audio track. I suspect it’s due to me having Flash 8, not 9 (which I’m not going to install, seeing as I’m still planning on uninstalling Flash).
I checked out Vimeo (the cool video sharing site), and they allowed me the freedom to download the video, though. It was even in good quality! I’m even feeling guilty I can’t see Vimeo’s Google ads.
Ahhh, sweet freedom.

Speaking of Vimeo, it’s got some weird stuff:

(They should fix the warning I need Flash 8, though. I HAVE Flash 8, not 9.)
