Google’s Call Girl Directory, or Google: Your Hooker Source

If you know the right questions, Google will show you how to rent a French call girl named Olga for “an exciting and passionate night”, at your place or hers. Holy hookers, Batman, Google is now a pimp!
What’s going on? Well, Google has a service called Google Q&A that they introduced way back in April of ‘05, that algorithmically pulls vital data from trusted sources and puts it above the regular search results as an instant answer, similar to what Ask or other search engines do. Google’s problem is that it is an algorithmic solution, and that means screwups like this one.
In this case, search for “how tall is paris”, and this is what happens:

Google is returning the height of the Paris call girl at girl-directory.com, a directory of call girls, escorts, and generally women many would consider hookers. How the hell Google’s computers thought girl-directory.com was a legitimate source of data we may never know, but I never seen a better argument for how algorithms can’t solve every problem. What an embarrassment.

By the way, the new year is 89 minutes old, and I’m already voting this “Most Embarrassing Google Moment Of 2007″.

What makes you say algorithms can’t solve every problem?
I think this is on purpose, I bet most people Googling for Paris Hilton prefer this result. =P

I mentioned it to someone at Google. I think it’s showing for a different Paris (Victoria Paris) now. Probably people want Paris Hilton, but they can always do [how tall is paris hilton]if they want that info.

Are escorts now illegal? Sex is not required, and only loosely implied, so I believe it is still legal in all states. Your extreme-conservative views are not swaying my opinion. Sex and violence are part of life, and no one will disagree with that. Why should we pretend it isn’t there?

Extremely conservative views? Do you read this blog!?!
Seriously, just because escorts are totally legal does not erase the fact that a huge percentage of people using these escorts pay them for sex, which is illegal. There’s a reason a good number of people running escort agencies wind up doing jail time. If someone is a legit escort, good for them, just like being an honest lawyer is a good thing, but not necessarily typical.
“Sex and violence are a part of life”. Well, yeah, what’s your point? I don’t disagree!
Escorts aren’t illegal, but most escorts break the law. Why should we pretend it isn’t there?
