All Systems Are Go; Super Bowl In T-Minus 60
The HDTV is set up, the signal is solid, the 5.1 speakers are spread around the room and the bass is pumping. I’m watching the pre-game show, eagerly anticipating what is going to hopefully be a tight, hard-fought game, with Super Bowl 41 (I’m not a Roman!) starting in one hour. My wife is making tacos (tacoes? taco’s? tacoz?), the drinks are cold, and the excitement is building. Are you watching the game? Who are you sharing it with? Who are you rooting for?
Don’t forget the commercials. Last year, Google put the commercials at Google Video, and hopefully they’ve got a similar deal this year. I’m hoping to be able to watch the best commercials over and over once the game is over, especially with “Criminal Minds” airing post-game.
Something I don’t understand at all:
I’m from the UK, and I barely know what superbowl is.
What is the American fascination with watching superbowl commercials? Are they special? Why would you want to watch adverts again and again?
In the UK we go and make a cup of tea when ads are on, not watch them again afterwards! I guess you do too with most ads, so why not with Superbowl?

I’m watching the same thing you are…looks wet out there! Since you run the Google and Microsoft blogs, you should also check out how Google Earth and Virtual Earth show the stadium…it’s pretty comical! I posted a couple of pics on my blog…

Because Super Bowl commercials are the most expensive of the year, companies need to be sure they get their money’s worth, and really impress the huge audience, so they put a lot of effort into making the ads real good. As a result, the ads are more watchable than most ads, to the point where the ads are sometimes as good as the game (especially if you are a spouse forced to watch the game).
In hindsight, this year’s ads were a big letdown, however.

The ads this year were disappointing. The game was action packed, but I wanted the Bears to win.

After what the Bears did to the Saints two weeks ago, I couldn’t root for them. Plus, this Bears team will have several shots at greatness, and I get a feeling the Colts will have a much harder time in future years, so I had to cheer for Indy.
The main thing: It was a great game.
