Google To Add Presentations To Docs Suite?

By Nathan Weinberg

Ionut Alex found some code in a Google Docs file (which Google removed quickly) that may point at a presentation application, code-named Presently. Considering that Google is almost definitely building an office suite to compete with Microsoft Office, and the only pieces it is missing are presentations (vs. Powerpoint) and databases (vs. Access), it was virtually a given they were working on this, but it’s nice to see some evidence.

Most likely, the final name will not be Presently, but, going with the Docs & Spreadsheets theme, the additions will be Google Presentations and Google Databases. I’d be shocked if they got a creative name, especially after Google dumped the Writely name for “Docs”. Also, from the code, it appears “Presently” isn’t a full-fledged presentation tool, but rather one that converts a document into a presentation, and then lets you pretty it up.
