AOL’s Totally Original Design Team Does It Again
Ionut Alex noticed that at some point, AOL Search moved over completely to the same search engine design as Google. This is useful for anyone who wants the old Google search design (changed yesterday) with the new features, but it’s yet another example of an AOL property using someone else’s design instead of making its own. If you don’t know what I’m talking about, check out what TechCrunch had to say the last time AOL completely ripped off the Yahoo homepage.

I don’t think they’re ripping them off, because the logo for the search site says ‘AOL search with Google’.

It has the Google logo. Does that mean it’s actually Google providing the search for AOL now?

The branding on the page is ‘AOL with Google’ so google is acknowledged.

AOL has had a search deal with Google for a while, where Google provided the underlying search engine. It appears AOL decided at some point to stop designing their old search engine interface (which was pretty good) and just use Google’s. It’s lazy, and it speaks to the same attitude that outright stole Yahoo’s home page.
I had hope for AOL, and I knew they had some talented coders. It looks like they’ve decided to go in a different direction. That’s the shame.
