Google Picks Up GTaxes, Other Domains
Gary has a long list of domain names transferred to Google name servers in the last week, and there are some interesting ones. The most thought-provoking domains:
- GTaxes.com - Google doing some sort of financial management/tax preparation service?
- Foogleaddon.com - Foogle? FirefoxGoogle?
- GoogleSecret.com - I’m thinking Google lingerie
- NoLimitDVD.com - What could Google possibly need that for? Are we seeing a big hint to a future service?
- androidalliance.com, androiddevices.com, androidfederation.com, androidhandset.com, androidphone.com,
- androidsdk.com, androidsoftware.com and many others - Google finally putting the sites for its secret Android project in its own name, now that the news is out.

I’m wondering if part of this isn’t timing - even Google can’t force people to give up domain names. So if these domains just became available, and Google is trying to buy up all the domains that might be mistakenly typed in to reach their services, then this might be only the first wave. If there’s even a *slight* chance of offering the service in the future, it’s in their best interest to buy it now at $10 a pop.

Some of these are domain transfers, so Google wanted them for a reason. Me, I’m hoping Google gets into the underwear biz.
Microsoft’s been really bad on the domain front lately. In the last month, I’ve caught them twice on new products with their domain registrations. Google’s a lot better, but there’s always the chance of striking Google by following the URLs.
