Google Checkout To Remain Unprofitable Through February

Google has decided to keep the party going for another month, making Google Checkout free through February 1st. Currently, Checkout doesn’t charge credit card processing fees, which means Google swallows the expense every time, a program that was supposed to end in two weeks. Looks like Google couldn’t stand the idea of sending anyone an actual bill (or more likely, they wanted to extend the program through the end of the post-holiday shopping season), so free Checkout continues, for one more month.

  1. Considering that many businesses, online or off, are not profitable in the first 2 years,

and considering the millions Google Checkout would have had to spend in advertising to gain the market share it now has,

and considering the increase in ad revenue Google may have received with Checkout customers easily tracking their ROI from Adsense,

and considering the future role Checkout will play in Google’s pay-per-action ad service,

then it’s completely reasonable that they would decide to expand the no fee promotion.
