Google LEGO Anniversary Doodle

Google is running today a special Doodle logo, honoring the 50th Anniversary of the LEGO brick:

Interestingly, the logo does not link to anything, unlike all (or almost all) previous Google Doodles. The reason could be because LEGO is a product, and thus a commercial term that Google did not want to link to, but it is more likely that Google has learned a valuable lesson.

Last time around, Google’s doodle caused a search results conflict due to Google’s new algorithm, which determines when a search term is having a spike in popularity, and alters the search results to include new pages. As a result, the last time, spammers were able to have an unusual amount of success infiltrating the Google results for the “Doodle’d” term, an embaressment to Google.

In spite of Google not linking, the top searches of the day include lego. On Google Trends:

6. legos
13. lego anniversary
16. lego day
23. google lego
47. lego land
51. lego brick
61. lego wiki
70. lego history
71. legoland
89. lego news
97. google logos

At least Google has managed to fragment the searches to multiple terms, and the search results for the top term, “legos“, do not have any major spam results. Google appears to have defeated this bug, and quickly enough.

Now, please, enjoy some classic LEGO online videos.
