Google X

Google’s Chikai Ohazama (from the Keyhole team) was learning Javascript and DHTML, and the results are a cool alternative interface for most of Google’s services. Google X uses a bit of a riff on Mac OS X’s dock (I apologize if I used the wrong word), with links to Web Search, Images, Groups, News, Froogle, Local, Scholar, Video, Maps, and Labs. Cool stuff. Gotta love the tagline on the bottom of the page:

“Roses are red. Violets are blue. OS X rocks. Homage to you.”

My recommendations, if anyone wants to update it a little, I’d shoot for higher resolutions on the larger images, a link to the Google Mac search engine, and a special logo for the page. Might I recommend:

UPDATE: As Jason notes in the comments, Google X has been taken down. Even the conspiracy theorist in me thought it was completely innocent. That is, until Google Blogoscoped suggested that Apple might have threatened to sue Google. Hmm… Apple sure has been “evil” lately…
