Who Are The Top Bloggers?

Blogebrity, the fake blogging magazine, put up a serious list of the A- B- and C-list bloggers. What do you think is the criteria for making the list?

I think it is a combination of readership, mainstream media citations, links from other bloggers, and name recognition. We all know there are a few bloggers, such as Scoble (A-list), who have enormous link juice and readership, and there are bloggers like Andy Beal (not on any list) who are forever getting quoted in the mainstream. In terms of recognition, I recognize 44 A-list bloggers, 9 B-listers, and 4 C-listers, this despite the fact that each subsequent list is longer than the previous one (both facts actually makes sense if you think about it).

I think the A-list is too broad, and should be far shorter. I don’t read the political blogs, so I can’t vouch for that portion of the list, but I know that among the geek blogs, the only “real” A-listers are guys with huge followings and mega-blogs, while the B-list should have a lot of the guys listed under A who have a lot of respect, a decent amount of readers, and get the occasional scoop and mainstream mention. The C-list should be the guys who get plenty of links from the B-list, but not a lot of readers.

I’d be a moron to actually draw up my own list, since I’d be insulting a lot of people I really like, but there are certainly some strange rankings there. There are some celebrities and well-known geeks on that list who simply do not have popular blogs. There are plenty of guys I link to on a weekly basis who should be B- or C- listers. How would you guys draw up such a list?
(via Steve Rubel, who is on the A-list)
