More Infringing Google Videos
Because it never ends, Brad Hill has some more copyrighted Google Videos, sure to dissapear as soon as someone from Google reads one of these blogs.
Daily Show - Even Stevens segment
As an aside, it took me less than a day to give up on Firefox. I’ve been trying to switch, at least temporarily, if only to have a good basis for comparison, but I’m already switching back. I tried to play videos with the Google Video Viewer, and despite the fact that I already installed it in IE, FF asks me to do it again. Far worse, when I attempted to install it, Firefox refused to open the file, insisting on saving it to disk. That is annoying enough to get me to switch back. If anyone can fix that setting for me, I’ll be willing to give it another shot.

Sometime back I installed Google Video Viewer in IE. Today I tried viewing Google videos from Firefox and it works fine for me.
Finally dont judge a browser based on a plugin.

Well, it pissed me off that Firefox wouldn’t let me choose to open .exe files. I have no interest in a browser that tells me what I can and cannot do in the interest of security. I do a fine job of protecting my computer, I don’t need Firefox’s help. Additionally, I found the page scrolling to be atrocious. I couldn’t stand to look at it.

Nathan, I love your blogs, but I have never seen someone so dedicated to using an inferior product.
First, any problem with a plugin is not Firefox’s fault. And on another note, you expect Firefox to use what you have installed in IE? Thats funny, I have the strong feeling that if I tryed to use one of the many things I have installed in Firefox in IE, they wouldn’t work.
Second, Firefox having decent security is the reason that it isn’t a vector to fill a windows computer full of spyware and crap. The stuff I have seen get through IE is atrocious. Wanna be able to open files because your confident in yourself? Grab the OpenDownload extension here:
http://mozmonkey.com/
Third, for the scrolling, under the advanced->browser section of the preferences, there is a smooth scrolling option. If you don’t like that, there is more then one extension that implement other methods of smooth scrolling. But being such an advanced user, you knew that right?
A secure and extensible browser. Your right, who would want that?

badrad, I never said I was switching back because the plugin didn’t work. I switched because Firefox didn’t let me launch an .exe file, requiring me to save it first. The browser can leave that as an option, but don’t you dare force me to waste time saving install files I won’t need saved in ten minutes. I hated that it limited me, I didn’t need anything limiting me, so I closed it.
Firefox’s security is a non-issue for me. Check my archives on Blogspot, and you’ll see that back in November I reformatted my system. Since then, I have not had one virus, not one spyware or malware attack, not one security problem. I don’t need help or hand-holding browsing the internet.
I tried the scrolling options, and they didn’t help. I’m not searching for extensions. If Firefox doesn’t give me a good reason to use it in the first place, I’m not going to waste another half hour fixing its UI. IE “just works”, and for us “advanced users”, security is not an issue.

And thats the great thing about having a choice. If IE works best for you, then thats great, I wouldn’t ask you to change, as long as you gave Firefox an honest shot.
I’ve used Mozilla since before it was actually better, using it on and off since the M8 builds. Part of me just has this built in hatred towards IE because it is such an infinitely large pain in the ass from a web development standpoint.
Your right that security doesn’t matter for us advanced users, but I like having more security from the start for other users. I will say SP2 made a big difference in IE.
I just re-read my (first) post and it sounded a little hostile, sorry for that. Had just been in quite an argument with someone and I guess my mind was still a little agressive
I’m a big Inside* fan. Goodnight.
