Anybody Ever See This Optimization?
Whilst searching through BlogPulse for citations, I came upon this post linking to my own, and discovered a form of AdSense optimization I had never seen before:
Basically, the area on the left side of the ad is a rotating PHP file that displays different little images next to each ad on each page load. The PHP file is here, just hit refresh to see how it changes. The “ads by goooooooogle” text running on the left side even makes it appear official (such a good usage that I almost thought I had stumbled on a new ad type).
One has to wonder if Google’s AdSense Terms of Service allow this. It seems like such a good optimization that, if it is allowed, I would recommend every AdSense publisher at least try it to see if it increases revenues. I’m waiting on Google for the verdict.

Nathan, using images is becoming a common thing. http://www.kbcafe.com/adwords/default.aspx?search=images+ I’m planning to do this myself too, when I finally get to update my site. You should try it. It’s allowed.
This is a very nifty example and I can say, if I add pics, it’ll be like this. Very stylish.

This has been going around for at least a couple weeks now - people have ben having the best results using relevant images (as opposed to the ones shown above). Lots of information can be found in the original discussion thread, found here:

Yeah, I’ve seen the above ad images, but these ones next to the ads are so much more seamless. Any other sites report using these?

Take a look at this post on Google News

I believe the official Google policy is that if the images look like part of the ad, then that’s no-go. In this case, yes it does.
Secondly, I think Zeldman owns the copyright on those images being used in this example. If he does, he’ll probably have something to say about its usage.

Images Vertically Aligned to AdSense Ads
In the past we discussed adding Image Ads Above AdSense Ads. Now it looks like some creative people are placing the ads in a vertically aligned fashion. What might be pushing it too far, in my opinion, is how they…

Very creative. That might work very well in a search environment.
