Lots Of AdSense Alternatives

Dane Carlson posts a list of 39 alternatives to Google AdSense. We’ve seen a lot of companies trying to take on AdSense, some with decent success, which is cutting badly into AdSense’s margins and stunting growth. I wonder how many of these on the list are decent alternatives.

I’ve used AdBrite (a few bucks here or there) Chitika (consistent small revenue stream) and the Yahoo Publisher Network (drastically decreasing revenues and inconsistent, but usually pretty decent return) and don’t find any perfect, but none are bad. One company that’s done well for me is Expoactive, which has sent me the fourth most money of any ad firm (after, in order, AdSense, YPN, Blogads), and they just started selling site-targeted text ads. I think I sold a $108 ad for a month; I guess I’ll find out in a month.

Anyway, I’ve been hearing of the other ad companies swooping in and wooing away Google’s larger clients with better offers. Looks like Google basically gets new, low-traffic sites, and when those sites start to make real money, they get noticed and get offers they can’t refuse.

Where’s my offer? :-) Just kidding. AdSense has been very good to me.

  1. Diversification of revenue streams is enough of a reason to look beyond Google. However, you’re correct that many alternatives can bring in some real revenue.

I’ve shied away from Chitika as of late due to loading issues. They failed to serve their ads one too many times, causing a broken box on my pages. Not acceptible.
