Google Desktop Leaves Beta

The latest version of Google Desktop Search (the one with the evil “your data on Google’s servers” feature, paranoid ass) has left beta. Included with the latest version is a new feature: Hit the CTRL key twice and the Quick Search Box appears in the center of the screen and lets you search, complete with live search. A great new feature, and heavy users of desktop should rejoice.

Nice feature, but it has to have some big advantages over the Google Desktop 2 before I’ll install it.
Google is okay now, but they’ll have access to our data forever. Plus governments cannot be trusted (as we have seen).
Oh, and I don’t think that Google-stored-data feature is evil - and even if it would be, it’s not as evil as having Digital Restrictions Management in Google Video.

You don’t have to use the Search Across Computers thing if you’ve got GDS 3 installed. It’s disabled by default.
I’m a happy GDS 3 user, just upgraded from the beta version of 3 last night.
