BlogSpot Says No To MSN Search?

A BlogSpot blogger claims that he received an email from Google saying that the MSN Search box he had placed on his blog violated Blogger’s Terms Of Service. The reasoning was that the box was “obstructing Googles services from operating efficiently and effectively”. The blogger, Roberto Dohnert, was told to remove the search box, and plans asking Google the question on everyone’s mind, “What the hell are you talking about?”

I find it hard to believe Google has an official policy against using non-Google search boxes. I’ll give them the benefit of the doubt that this was just an oversight, and that we’ll see this whole thing just dissapear. I hope.

UPDATE: The entire blog has vanished from Blogspot. You can read it in the Google cache. That either screams “scam” or really bad situation. Considering the blog has archives going back to June 2004, I’ll let you draw whatever conclusions you’d like until we hear more.

UPDATE 2: Looks like he moved to Wordpress.com hosting. Gee, this is a great endorsement for BlogSpot. (via Sean-Paul Kelley > Findory)

  4. Yeah, LcF, but not because Matt Mullenweg is being an ass, but because the system may not allow for it yet. That’s fine with me.

  6. Yeah, I’m posting on it soon. Although I’d hardly call it debunking, more like denying. But I believe Blogger, and I’ll explain why in my post.
