What? That’s the whole news. You want more?

Fine, try this:

Four people are sitting, one in front of the other.

The first guy is wearing a red hat.

The second is wearing a blue hat.

The third is wearing a red hat.

The fourth, the last one in the back, is wearing a blue hat and has a blindfold covering his eyes.

They are told that there are two red hats and two blue hats, and that everyone is wearing a hat. First to figure out correctly which hat he is wearing, wins the prize. No turning around, no discussing.

After a period of complete silence, one of them guesses correctly and wins.

Who was it?

  2. The second, he is correct.

Explanation: He sees a man with a red hat in front of him, if his hat was also red the man behind him would shout that his hat is blue. The man behind does not, man number 3 knows only that his hat is either red or blue. However, because he says nothing the second man KNOWS his hat is not red and thus it must be blue.

  3. Its also an unfair competition - as no one else knows with certainty so its likely someone else will guess falsely first - there is no reason “not to guess” if you have no idea to begin with.

  4. The 2nd man will know with certainty, even if they all shout out random guesses, it would be the 2nd man who is first certain (once the 3rd man shouts out a random guess)… assuming all the men are the same.

  5. While the first three contemplated the situation, the fourth guy knew that a lucky guest was 50-50 and since he didn’t have any preknowledge (he was blind folded), 50-50 that was better than playing his chances as the other 3 rhymed out guesses. So, he yells out blue and wins.
