Google Hires Full-Time Design Lead

Google has hired Douglas Bowman to be their Visual Design Lead. He’s charged “charged with helping the company establish a common visual language across all their collaborative and communication products”. Bowman, while at Stopdesign, designed the Blogger homepage (and some of the templates), along with some other great, bold and original designs, like Wired News, that look cool and modern, without falling into Web 2.0 cliches.

Considering that Philipp declared the Blogger homepage the best-looking Google page in his Google Oscar awards, and I’ve complained for a while that the Google homepage isn’t so brilliant that all their pages need to look like it, I think there’s going to be a lot of praise when Douglas starts showing results. I can’t wait to see what he fixes. Might I suggest Google Video?

Check out his blog.
