Google News Links To Blogsearch

Steve Rubel noticed that Google News now includes a link to Google Blogsearch. I’ve wanted many times to use Blogsearch, but the URL is ridiculous (blogsearch.google.com). Couldn’t Google buy a decent URL? The link is nice, but think of how to get there:

  • Option 1: type blogsearch.google.com, a 21-character URL
  • Option 2: type google.com
  • Click “News”
  • Click “Blog search”

Consider that Google Blogsearch’s competitors, all of which have less-than-perfect URLs, are still shorter and easier. Technorati.com. Bloglines.com. Icerocket.com. Feedster.com. Even ask.com/blogsearch is shorter. What really annoys me is that the Blog Search link on News isn’t dynamic, like the other Google tabs, that you could type something in Google.com, click the News then Blog Search link and the search term would carry over. Also, the link doesn’t appear on Google News results pages.

Still, Blog Search is pretty good, and deserves the better positioning. I’d be even happier if it were in the “More” box on Google.com, but it’s a start.

  1. * The link does appear (at least for me) in the news results - go to the bottom of the results for anything you’d search for in “news” ; and you’ll get a link to Google blogs.

    * Not only that the Blog search engine doesn’t appear on the google.com page, also Google Scholar and other Beta products (as well as Google Answers, from some unknown reason) do not appear in the direct search tabs.

  2. Or you can create a bookmark and put it in the toolbar. That’d be a lot easier.

  5. I’ve been going to the search through blogsearch.google.com. I think Google’s hesitation for making this easily accessible has something to do with not really wanting to heavily promote blogs, possibly due to some of them being not-so-factual and the like.

In any event, when I do use Google’s blogsearch (and I do use it a fair amount), I don’t mind typing in the URL.

  6. Google News Links to Blog Search

Google has added Blog Search’s link to Google News. This is a big step for Google, making it easier to get to Blog Search, which is a 21-character URL (blogsearch.google.com, if you have Google as your default browser search engine, blogsearch w…

  7. Perhaps they didn’t want to confuse people since blog.google.com links to blogger already?

I think they should alias blogs.google.com for Blog Search, though.
