Lincoln And Powerpoint

By Nathan Weinberg

Turns out Google’s head of research, Peter Norvig, created one of the most famous Powerpoints of all-time: A PPT version of Lincoln’s Gettysburg Address. Peter took the text, put it through Powerpoint’s AutoContent Wizard, added some common PowerPoint actions, and, voila! Instant statement on how PowerPoint dulls your voice. Basically, you see how less effective the Address would have been if it was done the way we do so many presentations.

On this page, he explains how this presentation became hugely popular. There was a time it ranked number one on Google for “powerpoint presentation” (I now have it at #2) and was getting links everywhere. Make a good point, and six years later, guys like me will still be linking to it, having just discovered a piece of internet history.
